Welcome to Phillip V. Sanchez Intermediate School, home of the Longhorns! Our school will open to students in grades 7 and 8 in August of 2025. We are a part of the Terry P. Bradley Educational Center (TBEC) which includes Clovis South High School and a future elementary school. TBEC is Clovis Unified’ s fourth educational center opening in August of 2025 to grades 7, 8 and 9. Each subsequent school year, one additional grade level will be added to the campus, ushering in the first graduating class in 2029.
Students in the Clovis South Area will benefit from a community of educators who are COHESIVE, COMPETITIVE, and CUTTING-EDGE.
As a school, we commit to being:
Cohesive:
Competitive:
Cutting Edge:
Our mission is to adapt to the future while building extraordinary students in Mind, Body and Spirit.
Our school was named Phillip V. Sanchez Intermediate by the CUSD Governing Board in May 2024 to honor a Clovis Unified graduate, Governing Board trustee and widely successful Hispanic American who was a U.S. Ambassador, among other things. Mr. Sanchez grew up in the Pinedale neighborhood of Fresno, attending Pinedale Elementary and Clovis High School where he was voted "Most Likely to Succeed" by his classmates. He lived up to that title, going on to launch a successful life of public service in which he became the first Hispanic American to serve on a U.S. Presidential Cabinet and was later appointed by President Nixon as the U.S. Ambassador to Honduras (1973-75) and then by President Ford to the position of U.S. Ambassador to Colombia (1975-77).
Ambassador Sanchez was also committed to education as a path to success. He served as a trustee of the Clovis Unified School District Governing Board and on the boards of the California State Community Colleges, National Hispanic University, University of Bridgeport and University of the Americas Foundation, a non-profit corporation that provides college scholarships to orphans in Mexico. He was active in the Pinedale community, supporting student activities and events at the elementary school. Ambassador Sanchez passed away in Fresno, CA, at the age of 88 in 2017.
Dr. Bradley was Clovis Unified’s fifth Superintendent, retiring from his position in 2009. After joining Clovis Unified in 1976 as the district’s business administrator, he put his financial talents to work for students, finding ways to do the most with every dollar. Dr. Bradley spent the next 34 years in Clovis Unified serving the district as an Assistant Superintendent, Associate Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent of Administrative Services and then Superintendent from 2002 to 2009.
With his passion for numbers and budgets, Dr. Bradley’s love for Clovis Unified was exemplified through his tireless work behind the scenes to bring the educational vision of CUSD’s founding Superintendent Floyd "Doc" Buchanan, Ed.D., to life. While everyone knows that Doc Buchanan crafted a vision for education that CUSD students and families benefit from today, fewer know just how much of Doc Buchanan’s vision was able to be accomplished because of Dr. Bradley’s expertise in navigating California’s school funding model.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Bradley leaned into his role and became one of the most influential school finance experts at the state and national level. Whether through his work to impact the state’s early funding model or through his insights on the state’s facilities program, Dr. Bradley was always looking out for Clovis Unified students and employees. His endeavors helped to make sure that Clovis Unified became the benchmark of education in America and that Clovis Unified students had world class opportunities at their fingertips.
Dr. Bradley was instrumental in state organizations like CASH, CASBO, School Services, and FCMAT, organizations that still influence public educational policy today. Holding numerous leadership positions in these organizations, Dr. Bradley continues to impact school districts through his work helping to establish a mentoring program for school Chief Business Officers, providing development opportunities to school personnel statewide.
Dr. Bradley is and continues to remain an important figure to Clovis Unified and provides on-going mentorship and guidance to ensure a bright future for the district.
